Israeli tax basics
For tax residents of Israel, gains on securities are generally taxed as capital gains at a basic rate of 25%. Different rules apply to substantial shareholders and certain kinds of income, and an additional surtax can apply at higher incomes.
Local banks and brokers commonly withhold tax for you. With a foreign broker you may carry the reporting duty. New immigrants and returning residents may enjoy time-limited benefits on foreign income and assets.
Rules change and personal situations differ. Confirm the current position with the Israel Tax Authority or a certified accountant.
